Social Worker

"Navigating the Middle School Years with Confidence and Care!"Middle School is a journey - no one has to walk it alone.
The Middle School Social Worker at Mount Vernon City Schools plays an important role in helping students navigate the unique and often challenging middle school years. This role focuses on supporting students’ social, emotional, and behavioral well-being so they can feel confident, connected, and ready to learn. Middle school is a time of growth and change, and the social worker provides individual and small-group support to help students manage stress, build coping skills, strengthen peer relationships, and work through challenges. The social worker also collaborates closely with teachers, parents, and community agencies to remove barriers to learning and connect families with helpful resources when needed.
At Mount Vernon Middle School, Tammy Walters proudly serves in this role. Mrs. Walters is dedicated to creating a safe and supportive environment where students feel heard and valued. She looks forward to welcoming returning students and meeting those new to the middle school. Families are encouraged to reach out with questions or concerns—her door is always open as she works to ensure every student feels supported, empowered, and ready for a successful school year.
