Supporting Multilingual Learners for Academic Success

Welcome! Bienvenida. ??. ?????? ??Mount Vernon City Schools is committed to the success of all students through our TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) Program. The program provides specialized instruction for students whose primary language is not English, helping them build the skills needed to succeed academically and socially.

Jen Ensminger teaches English to students enrolled in the English Learner Program at the secondary level, serving grades 6–12 at Mount Vernon Middle School, Mount Vernon High School, and Knox County Career Center. She grew up in Pennsylvania, earned her bachelor’s degree from Columbia International University in South Carolina, studied abroad in Jerusalem, and spent more than a decade teaching English in international settings before making Mount Vernon her home.

Jen has received specialized training in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) through TESOL International Association and UCLA CRESST for multilingual learners. She enjoys helping students develop the communication skills needed to build meaningful connections, supporting them as they work toward their goals, and learning from the diverse stories and experiences students bring to the classroom.

Outside of school, Jen enjoys cooking foods inspired by cultures from around the world, reading, listening to music, traveling, and spending time with her four children.

¡Hola, soy Jen Ensminger!
Crecí en Pensilvania, fui a la universidad en Carolina del Sur, estudié en el extranjero en Jerusalén y viví en el Medio Oriente durante 16 años antes de establecerme en Mount Vernon. Recibí un certificado en TESOL en 2019 de la Asociación Internacional TESOL y tengo más de 12 años de experiencia en la enseñanza de inglés a hablantes de otros idiomas, incluidos hablantes nativos de árabe, ruso, español y coreano. Mi parte favorita de ser maestra es conocer a mis alumnos y ayudarlos a crecer y alcanzar sus metas. Esta es mi primera experiencia enseñando en un salón de clases de los EE. Cuando no estoy enseñando, disfruto cocinar (y comer) una variedad de alimentos diferentes, leer, escuchar música (específicamente en el automóvil, con las ventanas abiertas), viajar y vivir aventuras con mis cuatro hijos. Algunas de mis cosas favoritas son las compras, el chocolate y el café, especialmente cuando se combinan.
